Best Action/Adventure Games to Play from Across the Board

Action and adventure games have a special place in any gamer’s heart. These games open up some intense action-packed missions for players to fight their way through, and put you in the shoes of someone with a much more adventurous life than the average person could ever hope to enjoy!

Some of the best titles give you an open world to explore and climb the ranks of. Our first game on this list is the pinnacle of these games – one that changed the face of gaming and is still one of the most popular titles ever to be released.

GTA: San Andreas

The game that just keeps giving. GTA: San Andreas, developed by Scotland-based Rockstar North, puts you in the shoes of Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson – a gangster from Los Santos (Los Angeles) on a mission to avenge his mother’s murder and to unite his splintered gang.

The game takes place in the early 1990s against a backdrop of the crack cocaine epidemic that swept America, as well as gang violence and police corruption. Throughout the game, you will engage in coordinated warfare in the streets to wipe out the drug problems plaguing your neighborhoods, as well as to secure more territory in an effort to undermine rival gangs. The game doesn’t stop there, however. Eventually, you’ll start building up businesses in San Fiero (San Francisco) and helping the Chinese Triads establish a casino in Los Venturas (Las Vegas). This puts you at war with Vietnamese gangs and the Italian mafia, and at one point you even break into Area 69 (Area 51) to steal a secret military project being worked on there.

The massive map to explore is one of the coolest features of this game. It includes three legendary cities, miles of countryside, a mountain to climb, and an expansive desert filled with airplane graveyards and shady secret military bases. You can drive cars, ride mountain bikes, pilot fighter jets, and commercial airliners and more to explore this massive open world. You can also take on the police, the FBI and the military when engaging in police chases.

GTA: San Andreas on Android and iOS

Another great thing about San Andreas is that it can be downloaded in app form onto Android and iOS devices. Download GTA: Andreas on Android to get the full console/PC experience of the game, including even better graphics and exclusive new features, as well as the classic storyline and all the best bits of the original game.

Red Dead Redemption

Another open world game developed by Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption is essentially GTA in a western cowboy and Indians setting. This awesome game lets you explore a massive world on horseback while providing realistic graphics and way more interactions with random characters in the game than the GTA series.

Set in 1908, the game takes place in the frontier states of the United States of America, at a time when the government was expanding its hand in everyday life and governance against a backdrop of raider gangs, tough locals living off the land, and the spread of telecommunications and automobile technological advances.

In the game, you play as John Marston, a former bandit who is sent by a new government agency to capture his former leader who left him for dead. In doing so, he’ll be exonerated for his crimes. The agents also kidnapped his family to make sure that he gets the job done. The game will take you on a set of missions around the West, and eventually into Mexico where you will fight alongside a corrupt local government to burn out rebel forces, and then eventually ally yourself with said rebels against the government who are sheltering your enemies.

This is a phenomenal action/adventure game with stunning graphics and a soundtrack that includes a track from Jose Gonzalez, as well as other era-appropriate tracks.

Assassin’s Creed

The legendary Assassin’s Creed series is one of the most played games of all time once you rack up all the follow-ups that came out of it. The original game still looks amazing years after its release, and the mysterious storyline continues to captivate the imaginations of players around the world.

The game is set during the Crusades period, where the Crusader States are fighting Salah A’din and the Muslim armies that seek to remove the invading Christian armies from the Holy Lands. The Knights Templar were originally established to protect pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem. Before long, the order began to gain massive financial and political power – the order was tried and sentenced to death for heresy in real history.

In the game, the Knights Templar is trying to find the Holy Grail, which will expand their power over the world, and it is your mission to assassinate various figures that are supporting them. The game takes many twists and turns and allows you to mingle in cities across the Holy Lands and plan assassinations.

The game also takes place in the modern era, where a shady organization is using the memories of your ancestors to play out the Crusade era scenes in order to continue their mission to find the Holy Grail.

This is an epic game with a great combat and control system which makes for hours of entertainment and will no doubt inspire you to look into the history of this era – and especially the Knights Templar, who still have relics to them around the world today, including a chapel off of Fleet Street, in London.
